GAB is hosting RT news after every other website banned it some time back. GAB will actually ban accounts for speaking out against Russia or for promoting Ukraine. GAB is one of the main homes of right wing Evangelical QAnons now and they see America as evil and controlled by Satan and Hollywood. So Russia to them with it's anti gay, white nationalist, religious views (crock of shit) is looked at by them as fighting Satan itself. They see Putin as the hero trying to eradicate evil from the world and everything bad said about him is lies of the media. So ya more proof QAnon was more or less a Russian PsyOp campaign.

105

u/CaptainCacoethes Oct 01 '22 Helpful 'MURICA

I remember hearing it in the 80's and 90's in church. Christians have always been cunts, it just used to be a secret to Christians. Now they openly and unapologetically embrace racist, bigoted, stupid fucks who are antithetical to their own belief system. The real underlying problem with this country is the extreme Christianity that has held us back and made us stupid for several decades at least. We have to pay more money in assistance when we force women to have unwanted babies. Churches don't pay taxes but influence voters illegally. The stupidest people on earth want to add mythology to textbooks and pretend it is as good as science. The teen birth rate is the highest where Christians have successfully removed sex education from public school curricula. Christians routinely and overwhelmingly vote for the politicians who cut taxes for the richest people in the country while they try to eliminate programs designed to feed hungry kids. Jesus said to feed the hungry, clothe the poor and house the homeless, I guess Christians who vote Republican just ignore that part of Jesus's teachings.

American Christians are a plague on the planet.

40

u/DreddPirateBob808 Oct 01 '22

The only way to be a compassionate Christian is to actually follow the spirit of Christ's teachings or to have nothing at all to do with the fuckshow that is the variety of what people call the Church.

TL:DR if an organisation openly protects people who rape children and you give them money then you are investing in rapists so you can go to heaven. Heaven does not want you.

In their incessant drive to be contrarians against the Liberal Order, those people who support Russia and Putin admire his defiance against the Liberal Democratic status quo. They also appreciate his “defence” of traditional Christian values.

What they don’t appreciate enough however, is that the very same liberal democratic principles that allow and tolerate those things which they detest in society- those very same principles and tenets- are the same exact ideals that safeguard and secure their right to freely worship and live as they see fit as well.

The problem with authoritarianism vs liberalism is, as always, when the other shoe drops. When it drops the way you didn’t want it to. When you look at the USSR, or China, you see societies where there wasn’t/is no freedom of worship without interference from the state. And I promise to any American who might have deluded themselves into thinking that their way might be superior ours- there is no hell on earth worse than when the state (or whatever authority may reign supreme) dictates against your particular grain.

To properly appreciate freedom in the context of a pluralistic and truly free society, is to appreciate this. That the same rights which protect “their” way of life are the very same ones that protect “your” way of life. This coming from a conservative who actually appreciates the glory/beauty of Liberal Democracy- and also can understand how these principles and values are the bedrock of our flourishing civilization.

55

u/RedditOfUnusualSize Oct 01 '22

Exactly. I have a racist aunt who spouted Christian nationalist bs before I really knew what Christian nationalism was, so while I always pushed back against it, I almost always tended to push back on it the wrong way, that it was some kind of failure of information acquisition as opposed to her professing her self-identity. And people who are professing their self-identity don't change their mind if you present them with contradictory information, because it's just information.

So when she said that America was founded as a Christian nation, and I pushed back that in Article VI of the Constitution, it literally says that there shall be no religious test for office:

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

--Article VI of the Constitution, emphasis mine

it just bounced right off her.

But the one time I did make her pause, even for a moment, was when I pointed out to her that she was a Lutheran who lived in Nevada. A state that is majority LDS. So when America becomes a "Christian nation", exactly which religion did she think would become the state religion of Nevada?

It didn't get her to change her crazy, because the crazy went too deep for that. But it was the first time in my life I'd actually seen her process what another person was saying and re-evaluate. Because for the first and only time in my life, I'd actually hit her where her self-identity lived.

My last Uber driver felt this way about Putin/Biden very strongly.

…She also told me to snort basil to cancel out the poisonous covid vaccines I’d gotten, admitted her family no longer speaks to her, and finally burst into tears while telling us the holy spirit was telling her to run for President soon.

But this is normal now. This is just what republicans are like in 2022. 🤷‍♀️

623

u/bishsticksandfrites Oct 01 '22

This is why I take Uber exec and pre-select ‘no talking’.

I’d otherwise have to jump out of a moving car way more often than i’m comfortable to.

417

u/RaspberryTechnical90 Oct 01 '22

Oh, you have no idea…It was a two hour ride to our cabin, multiple animals were run over during this drive (with lots of crying from the driver each time), and the crazy rambling was at 110% for the duration…My husband stress vomited the second we got out of the car.

So yes. We will be going with Uber exec in all matters going forward lol.

81

u/roboticseagull Oct 01 '22

multiple animals were run over during this drive

.....what?

52

u/sillybear25 Oct 01 '22

Considering the story was about traveling to a cabin, I'm guessing it was the typical assortment of small woodland creatures rather than people's pets. You know that thing squirrels do where they pick the worst possible time to dart across the street, and they usually just make it but sometimes they don't? I'm picturing that like 20 times with a handful of failed crossings, but sometimes it's a rabbit or a frog or something instead of a squirrel.

8

u/Blarghnog Oct 01 '22

I love that we simply accept carnage of woodland creatures as a normal part of car travel. /r/fuckcars

6

u/stringfree Oct 01 '22

There's no word for how awful it is we criss-crossed all the woods with what are effectively blenders for wildlife, like draping a room in flypaper.

6

u/NoNeedForAName Oct 01 '22

Not Uber, but I did recently learn from a coworker that Biden is the antichrist because he just signed a bill that will eliminate cash, and now everyone will have to get microchips implanted in themselves to scan to pay for stuff and those microchips are the Mark of the BeastTM

So there's that. It's in the Bible. She admitted she had to read it a few times to understand it, but it's all there. Her lead backed her up and said that's why we have Bitcoin.

7

You took a two hour Uber? To a cabin outside of a city. How are you going to find an Uber out in the boonies back to civilization?

16

u/Goatesq Oct 01 '22

You can bribe a normal cabbie if you find the shittiest, smallest taxi company in whatever civilization oasis the county has named. You just pay up front. It actually works out in your favor cause you can negotiate ahead of time.

11

u/RaspberryTechnical90 Oct 01 '22

I'm more just angry at these people now. I was sad at the start, but they're the ones who keep immersing themselves into qanon and maga garbage. They're doing it to themselves frankly, and i'm trying to not suffer fools anymore

41

u/Original-Yak-679 Oct 01 '22

When my own father-who used to be a moderate (neither Democrat nor Republican) started going to my late uncle's church and associating with the "Hallelujah Gang", he began imbibing the Trump Q-Aid.

To be fair, we had disagreements before, but we've always been able to "agree to disagree" and respect each other's boundaries. Now though...he feels the need to attack me for supporting Biden, and I have no option but to respond in kind. I'm just waiting for the day one of us crosses the last boundary and we end up denouncing each other...with my Mom sadly caught in the middle.

I guess what I'm saying too, is that religion is partially to blame for the uptick in MAGA doctrine. Another reason I stopped having anything to do with it.

15

u/AdRealistic8758 Oct 01 '22

Yeah...It's really unfortunate that peaceful discourse has gone the way of the Dodo's in modern american nowadays. It feels like you can't really talk with anyone anymore and it's hilariously stifling.

I apologize that you and your dad are going through this. Hopefully your dad can pull his head outta his ass before it causes more damage to your relationship. My dad emotionally abused me as a kid and doesn't believe in mental health (despite being a combat veteran with PTSD that he treats with booze), so I cut him off as soon as I could. But I don't suffer his propaganda either

13

u/Original-Yak-679 Oct 01 '22

Well again, he wasn't always like that. We could discuss things like abortion, climate change and economy, and while we have differing views, the discourse was generally peaceful and we came out of them with a better understanding.

But thanks to exposure to religion in its twisted MAGA variety, we can no longer hold any discourse without resorting to mudsling and strawman'ing (on his part)

The exact opposite of the experience I had when vacationing in Dahlonega a year ago. Used a taxi service called Mama's Taxi....she was very kind. She told me of the best places to eat in Dahlonega, recommended gift shops, gold mine tours, and even wine-tasting tours...she took care of me and my friend, even holding our souvenirs in her bus while we grocery shopped at the local Walmart (even though she had to take care of another customer, she guarded our things for us. I gave her a good Yelp review)

On a side note, if you should ever wish to stay a week in Dahlonega....and you don't wish to use your own personal vehicle to explore the area....Mama's Taxi is the best public-transit/taxi service. She'll even drive you to the Atlanta airport if required to.

They’re too far gone. No point in trying with them.

You mean maga hat wearing trump supporters? Yea, they like to call themselves “patriots” while they cheer for the US to be overthrown by a Russian dictator.

11

u/xXTheFETTXx Oct 01 '22

I've been saying this for quite some time now. If you think Putin's Russia are the 'good guys' you are part of the problem.

Why beat around the bush? Just say, “they’re called Conservatives and identify themselves with the Trump wing of the GOP”.

7

u/elarth Oct 01 '22

The answer is they’ve been fascist all along though they try to deny it. For a lot of ppl Trump was the catalyst to introducing them to this kind of ideology.

31

u/GoddessWriter61 Oct 01 '22

They're not conservatives. They're domestic terrorists.

If these people were living in Ukraine and the Russians came through the men would be tortured until they got a bullet in their head. Then the women would be raped and their children would be taken away and sold off to orphanages and that's all while their homes were scavenged for food or anything else they could keep to sell for more money.

39

u/Yonder_Zach Oct 01 '22

And every single republican would be fine with it until the moment it happened to them

17

u/newgrow2019 Oct 01 '22

The republicans would be marching with the Russian fascist imperialist raping and pillaging if they had the chance and it was beneficial for them.

even if we do, *those* americans won't see or acknowledge the conversation. and nothing will change

9

u/tardis1217 Oct 01 '22

Yeah we've kind of gone too far down the rabbit hole at this point. Trump was the tipping point and the end of politics in America. Politics used to mean debate over what the government should spend its money on, what problems the government should prioritize, and how it should handle them.

We don't have politics anymore. We are now just trying to stop a fascist regime's overthrow of American democracy. And these people aren't going to go away, they're not going to become re-educated, they're not going to "see the error of their ways". They are radicalized domestic terrorists. And there are only three paths for these people, if America is going to continue as a free representative Republic: in prison, dead, or scared into hiding where they and their toxic ideas can rot and die.

5

u/throwaway31096 Oct 01 '22

Imagine going back in time to the peak of the Cold War and telling the Republicans that the future of their party consisted of many of their politicians and figureheads supporting an ex-high ranking KGB agent turned president of Russia for life via corruption.

And before you point out that it's different now because Russia is no longer communist, that's kinda my point. In my opinion, current Russia isn't that much different from it's USSR days. It's an authoritarian government backed by state propaganda, a former higher ranking KGB spy who worked his way up doing work to maintain Soviet influence in foreign countries used corruption to secure himself presidency for life, an agenda focusing on expansionism, with its oligarch's having been former high ranking party members or made deals with said members. All that really changed was a re-branding away from communism/socialism.

My point is that's it's really ironic how quickly the Republican party, who prided itself on being tough with Russia, is now bending over happily for the same authoritarian albeit re-branded regime.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '22

Right-wingers never opposed the USSR because it was brutal and authoritarian, they opposed it because USSR rhetoric was offensive to wealthy business interests. With Putin, this bug has been removed.

4

u/Nuka-World_Vacation Oct 01 '22

Those are called traitors or domestic terrorists. They don't deserve the title of American citizen anymore.

5

u/VegetableAd986 Oct 01 '22

They are domestic terrorist - they said it themselves

5

u/Resident_Text4631 Oct 01 '22

Can't wait for them all to go full Scoooby-Doo episode-style mask off and try to act like "Nya-ha! Twas' we who colluded with Russia all along!" as if it was some kind of surprise reveal that none of us saw coming.

4

u/Large_land_mass Oct 01 '22

Bought and paid for, those traitors. They don’t care about fucking America if they’re getting paid. It’s the ONLY reason how a GOP a can stand there and lie out loud like that.

4

u/matt_mv Oct 01 '22

As far as I can tell the Republican love for Putin is fundamentally based on the fact that the Russians provide money to Trump that his business needs via loans and money laundering.

So Trump talks up Putin and Russian and Trump's MAGA drones echo and magnify.

7

Are you kidding? They're going to want Trump to get it, because he obviously brokered the peace. It bugs the shit out of Trump that Obama got one and he couldn't take it away or get his own.
