I remember when I was younger, like 5-11 I thought weddings were a blast, because I would just eat cookies and run around all night.

As a teen, weddings suck because you matured (somewhat) and can't drink.

As an adult that also enjoys dancing (when drunk), open bar weddings are a blast.

152

u/Nicktune1219 Aug 07 '22

As someone under 21, weddings are a family get together with no friends, and where you also don't want to see your family, and you sit around for 4 hours doing nothing, eating, and staring at your phone, while everyone else is getting drunk and dancing.

114

u/guessesurjobforfood Aug 07 '22 edited Aug 07 '22

I’m only in my 30s, but I remember having to do this without the luxury of a smartphone.

I feel like these days, going to a wedding as a teenager would be quite similar to sitting on the toilet. Just scroll through some stuff or play a game until it’s over.

56

u/AspiringChildProdigy Aug 07 '22

I remember getting yelled at as a teen at a wedding reception because my mom realized I'd smuggled a book along in my purse. Apparently I was supposed to be pretending to have fun.

Why? I didn't even like those cousins.

19

u/Li_3303 Aug 08 '22

I tried that once, but my Mom made me leave it at home. I was 12 or 13 at the time. I swore if I ever had kids and they wanted to bring a book to a wedding reception I would let them. Ended up not having kids, but I did become a librarian.

That’s a sister face 😂

(At least, my initial thought)

——

Source- my sister

134

u/jinsaku Aug 07 '22

I assumed sister to the bride, because I saw this face at my wife’s cousin’s wedding. The face was that of a sister to the bride. The bride was an younger sister and the face was an older sister. She had a scowl on all wedding, got hammered, and within 3 months of the wedding she went from single to engaged. Everyone assumed it was desperation as she was the last of her sisters to be unmarried.

It’s now like 12 years later, she has 2 kids, and her husband just basically sits on the couch complaining about everything while she works and takes care of the kids. But she’ll never leave him, because “she’s not going to be the one person in the family who gets divorced.” (Not that she’s said that, but it’s obvious. Both her sisters have great marriages)

19

u/I_MILK_KITTENS_MILK Aug 07 '22

What a pathetically sad life people live to maintain the status quo.

28

u/jinsaku Aug 08 '22

Yeah. She had a masters in fine art from the University of Chicago and was running (not the owner) a charming Airbnb in Portland, Maine. He worked part time at the Home Depot. When they got married, at his insistence, she had to leave her job and moved into his trailer an hour away on some land his family owned. One of his rules is “you can never accumulate any debt at all”, which means, no mortgage. This trailer was from the 60s and had holes in the wall.

After the two kids came and he stopped working and refused to buy anything, she got a mortgage and a small house behind his back and basically forced him to move with her into it. So she owns the house, makes all the money, takes are of the kids, and his primary life goal is “finding himself”. He still works part time at the Home Depot, 12 years later. Also, the Home Depot is an hour away.

Anyway, I just feel so bad for her. She’s educated, attractive, and saddled with a manbaby she married that’s almost a 3rd kid. When they came out to our wedding about 6 years ago, we didn’t even see them ever talk to each other.

(She is now a dental hygienist or something.. forget what she does for work)

By the look on her face, this wedding doesn't look like an open bar service. Open bars are definitely makes weddings a bit more fun

Funerals and wedding are incredibly similar.

Everyone should start out dressed as well as possible to show their respect, and end the night as an absolute drunked wreck to show how much they appreciated the individuals involved.

Can confirm. Went to a funeral for a close friend all sorted and nice yesterday, and woke up to my wife(who left well before I did) and got a ride home from a friend.
I was a hot mess upon my arrival home.
Even my dogs thought I was bark at worthy mess.
She asked me what the “Merinol drama” was all about that I kept mumbling about last night when I woke up this morning, and I was hella confused and realized I was saying “marital” like a drunk person.
I still don’t know exactly what I was on about when I stumbled into bed, and am afraid to know if I said something dumb. I’m sure I did, I hope it wasn’t an unforgivably stupid thing i said to my ride home tho. :/ Regardless, (RIP broham) what’s done is done I reckon.

She's regretting the decision of not saying anything when the priest said ...And If anyone objects to this marriage...

Looks like a younger family member or guest. Staring straight in the camera. Possibly a "why in hell are you taking photos of me" face.

I did this at a work event. A coworker took a group photo and I just stared at them the whole time.

At first glance, it might seem she's pissed for the PDA or, that she's all alone at the table. But no, that's not it. She's pissed at the camera person for catching her in the photo with a couple making out in the background, because it highlights how she is all alone at the table.

That's the look only a sister can give towards her jerk of a brother embarrassing her. I know it well.

I was there when some random dude posted a link to a thing he created to make sharing photos on reddit easier. Something called imgur.
